My Pain Is Always Up My Whole Right Side...

Low Back Pain Can be the
Cause of Neck and MidBack Pain Too
When we talk about pain a major question is the location of it. Typically if you have low back pain, there's a chance you can get mid back pain or neck pain because of it. Why is that?

Reason #1 is that the whole body is on big kinetic chain. It's totally attached and works together. So if one part is off, so goes the rest.

Reason #2 is that if your posture or alignment is altered on that side of the body then there is a greater chance more symptoms appear on that side. Let's say someone walks in the office with one hip an inch higher than the other. Do we think the shoulder may be high on that side too? There is a very good chance...

Reason #3 is wear and tear often occurs unevenly. Pretend your can is out of whack, the right wheels always wear out faster than the left. Maybe you only go around right hand curves on your way to and from the office? More than likely something is off balance and it causes uneven wearing. The body is similar. Maybe you are completely right hand and foot dominant. After years of physical work and playing sports you not only have had injuries but more breakdown on that side.

However you slice it I would get it checked. Call our office to schedule now!

Can Shoe Orthotics Help My Neck Pain?

Orthotics for the Foot can Help in Alignment of the Spine
Yes, orthotics may help reduce and prevent your neck pain. Here's the reason; our bodies are one big kinetic chain, everything is connected.

Essentially if your base is off or non-supportive then higher up in the spine can get shifted. Much like a building, if the foundation isn't sound then structural problems can happen.

Orthotics can help create an even, stable base. They also can help to distribute shock absorption evenly. Lastly, doing theses things contributes to better balance and muscle strength.

Is My Pain in the Back or SI Joints?

What are the SI joints and what are they? The S and the I stand for Sacro-Iliac joints; where the pelvis meets the sacrum (or as many refer to it as the tailbone).

Most of us consider this the back as well. If you reach back with your hands above each butt cheek and feel a bony prominence or hard spot that is probably the SI joint. There is often a muscle trigger point around this area also. Usually just above, and you will notice the consistency is different plus it moves around.

I read something once on how your back doctor may check your spine but not the SI's, and something can go unnoticed? I suppose you can have a spot shot done with X-ray and not visualize the SI's.

At CT Spine we always check the SI joints as well. With any tests like an X-Ray, one must correlate with a physical examination!

DRX9000 Non-Surgical Spinal Decompression Treatment

This video explain a lot about non-surgical spinal decompression. Listen here to Dr Terry Yochum as he talks about the treatment. This guy is the real deal; he's famous for writing the two volume Essentials of Skeletal Radiology books that are used in chiropractic schools and medical schools worldwide! I still pull those enormous books out if I don't understand something on someone's x-rays.

Can I avoid back surgery by doing spinal decompression?

One treatment for back pain is with the Drx 9000
There is a chance you can avoid surgery by doing drx 9000 spinal decompression. Basically, what we are doing is trying to heal a disc or discs. With surgery we are cutting or fusing an area. Once we cut something out of there we can't just put it back.

We often hear in the media - this athlete is going for surgery, or this contestant on "Dancing with the Stars" is having this surgery. Keep in mind that these celebrities have a lot of money behind them and their choice of the best surgeons. Even then, you want to try to avoid it if you can.

A good surgeon may even tell you something like; "come back when it's so bad you can hardly walk". Don't get me wrong, some cases a clear surgery ones, and we may have to send you to one... Luckily, in most cases we can help with a more natural approach - Spinal Decompression.

"Can I Exercise My Pain Away?"

It's a nice thought, if it only worked. I love the old NIKEY slogan, "Just Do It" and there's some to be said about mind over matter. But, it usually doesn't work that well. Don't get me wrong, you can do a lot with affirmations and visualization, maybe meditations, and more. Why make things worse though. Your medical doctor's office may be associated with a physical therapy outfit, and that's why they always refer there.

In some cases certain exercises may hurt your back. Talk to your Chiropractor to find the best way to reduce your pain.

New Study shows that “Sitting “shortens our Life Span

According to Dr. Anup Kanodia at the Ohio State University Wexner Medical Center, sitting increases the risk of heart disease, diabetes, and slows down the metabolism. Dr. Kanodia even stated that “sitting is the new smoking”. For some of us, sitting is part of the job. We do customer service, IT, we also work as a receptionist, or maybe even a server.
Dr. Kanodia showed on Oct 2012 Australian study compared smoking and sitting. For every hour of T.V that people watch while sitting it cuts 22 mins from their life span.  It is estimated for smokers, they cut their life span by about 11 mins for every cigarette that they smoke.
How is sitting related to cardio vascular disease and diabetes?  Sitting burns minimal calories and it suppresses the product of an enzyme that turns bad cholesterol into good cholesterol:  Lipoprotein lipase.
Sitting can also lead to insulin resistance, therefore affecting diabetics.  Incidentally, another Australian study found that adults who sat for more than 11 hours a day increased their risk of death by a whopping 40% in the next 3 years, compared to those who for 4 hours or less.

My MRI Shows Disc but I Don’t Have Pain?

Sometimes your MRI can show a disc bulge of herniation but there’s no pain because it’s not hitting a nerve.
  • It can be hitting a nerve area that doesn’t affect pain.
  • Like we said previously, it’s not hitting any nerves.

Here’s the bottom line- get checked because really those MRI findings need to be corrected with a physical exam and consultation. This is exactly what a doctor at CT Spine and Disc Center will be doing.

Soda is the Culprit...

Alarming study shows that sugary beverages are linked to obesity in kids ages 4-5. I know what you are thinking...Another study shows that soda is linked to obesity...yeah,yeah; but the you read 4 and 5 year olds...WHAT?

I know seems crazy doesn't it. It doesn't mean they are drinking coke but there's a lot of other sugary drinks out there. Even that glass of juice in the morning could have quite a bit of sugar.
We really have to watch, not only what we eat and drink, but our kids too. Part of staying healthy might be seeing your chiropractor or chiropractors but you have to take care of yourself, and family, at home also...
