Should I Take Vitamin D?

I must say, D has become the super vitamin. It may help a lot, and be an immune system helper. We know also that it works with other vitamins and minerals such as vitamin K and calcium.

The best way to get it though, is from the sun. That does depend on the time of year and your latitude. In the summer you get more of course. If you live in the north, you probably get vitamin d in the summer months. The sun is higher and has more direct rays.

We don't all get vitamin D all year so we may need to supplement...

Am I Getting Enough Vitamin D?

When doing the basic blood test, anything less than 30ng/ml is considered low. According to the CDC(Centers for Disease Control) a significant number of males come up short of this number. Most areas it's very difficult to get enough sun because the angle to the earth is such that for most of the year you won't get the Vitamin D.

Here's what to do: You can always move to central Florida or further south where you are at a latitude where you get Vit D all year. That can a bit difficult though so I recommend taking a supplement. Also, keep in mind that animals store this vitamin in their fat. Therefore don't be afraid to eat meat with so fat. Lastly, don't drown yourself in sunscreen when you do go out. If you know you may get burnt - cover up.

More on Vitamin D and Your Health...

Now is the time to get outside and get your vitamin D. Up here in the Northeast we don't get as much as we should. The key is to supplement in the winter months but now you can get out and catch some rays. Many of us are deficient in this very important vitamin.
